Length and Range of Adjustment

The FHRED Pro models are available in three sizes.

Pro Short	7 to 10.5 in / 18 to 26.5 cm length and 1.2 oz. / 34 gm It has one telescoping section
Pro Long	9 to 19 in / 22.5 to 48 cm length and 2.4 oz. / 68 gm It has two telescoping sections
Pro XL	12 to 25.5 in / 28.5 to 53 cm length and ? oz. / ? gm It has two telescoping sections

Adjustment Method

FHRED Pro models have a mechanical memory. Once you have adjusted your FHRED to length, it can be collapsed for storage and it will return to its preset length when it is opened. This makes the unit instantly ready for use at any time.

When opened for use, the telescoping sections of the FHRED Pro models lock into place using a spring hook. To use a Pro FHRED, , pull the telescoping section out of the base section until it stops and a spring hook pops out of the base section. Then push the extended section back into the base section locking the hook.

To collapse a telescoped section for storage, pull the extended section out slightly while holding the base of the FHRED. This releases the spring hook. Then press the spring hook into the base section with a finger tip and push the top section into the base.

All FHRED Pro models use a threaded brass rod for the fine length adjustment in the top section. With the top section extended, adjust the length by holding the base section firmly and turning the latch block clockwise to lengthen and counter clockwise to shorten.

The FHRED Pro Short model has one telescoping section and a threaded brass rod for length adjustment.

The FHRED Pro Long and XL models have two telescoping sections, the mid section adds a fixed length length adjustment of 5 inches (and the top section with a threaded brass rod provides the fine length adjustment. With the mid section collapsed, the threaded brass rod in the top section will provide a length range from 9 to 14 inches (23 to 35.5 cm). To make the unit longer, the mid section is extended which adds 5 inches (12.7 cm) to the FHRED Pro Long Model and 8 inches (20 cm) to the FHRED Pro XL Model which with the range of the threaded brass rod in the top section provides a range of 14 to 10 inches ( 12.7 to 48 cm). The fine adjustment is made using the threaded brass rod in the top section.

Attachment to the Instrument

The thumb rest on my instrument does not have a neck strap ring. How can I use FHRED?

We have adapters with a ring for use with Lorée, Buffet, Leblanc and Bay adjustable thumb rests. We also offer a standard Buffet thumb rest with a ring on it for the convenience of our clarinet customers who play Buffet instruments.

For other instrument makes, if your instrument has a removable metal thumb rest, your service person can silver solder a ring on it for a nominal charge.

The ring should be made of 16 asw gauge wire (0.062 inches, 1.6 mm in diameter), nickel wire works well, formed into a ring with an inside diameter of 0.18 inches (4.6 mm)
